Nothing beats working with your hands. Crafting is a system that enables characters to create their own Items and equipment, allowing them to build up additional resources for use in tackling the Dragon Universe.
Scrap
To understand Crafting, you must first understand Scrap. Scrap is an Adventure Resource that represents the various pieces and materials required to make anything.
Scrap is used to make Vehicles, Battle Jackets, and Basic Items with the [Tech] tag, but may also be required for various other Craft-related Adventure Maneuvers.
Crafting an Item
Crafting is done predominantly through the Create Maneuver, shown below.
To create something through the Create Maneuver, you require 2+ Skill Ranks in the relevant Speciality:
- Basic Item. This allows you to create Basic Items.
- Apparel. This allows you to create pieces of Apparel.
- Weapons. This allows you to create Weapons.
- Vehicles. This allows you to create Vehicles and Battle Jackets.
Create and Tags. Some Basic Items have tags, such as [Tech], [Medicine] and [Food]. Each one applies different rules to the Create Maneuver:
- Tech. Scrap is required to create this Basic Item.
- Medicine. Use your Medicine Skill instead of the Craft Skill through the use of the Create Maneuver.
- Food. You must spend an Ingredient to attempt and create this Basic Item through the Create Maneuver, and use your Cooking Skill instead of the Craft Skill through the use of the Create Maneuver.
Scrap Cost. To create a Basic Item with the [Tech] tag, a Vehicle, or a Battle Jacket, you must spend a number of Scrap depending on the Difficulty Category (1~6, from Novice to Grandmaster). For creating a Battle Jacket, however, you must double the amount of Scrap required.
Auto-Succeed. Once you possess 4 Skill Ranks in Craft, you automatically succeed at all Craft Skill Checks against Difficulty Categories of Qualified or less. Upon reaching 5 Skill Ranks, increase this to Expert or less.
Create Maneuver
Create: You craft an item from base components, creating something with function and purpose.
–Prerequisite: 2+ Skill Ranks in the Craft Skill (or Medicine/Cooking for their relevant Basic Items)
–Session Limit: 1
–Time Cost: Varies
–Effect: Make a Craft Skill Check using the relevant Specialty for what you are trying to create (Basic Item/Weapon/Apparel/Vehicle), against the Difficulty Category listed by what you are attempting to create. If you succeed, you gain the item. If you fail, you may pay the Time Cost to try again.
The Time Cost for the Create Maneuver depends on what you are trying to create:
- Basic Item. 8 hours.
- Weapon. 1 day.
- Apparel. 1 day.
- Vehicle/Battle Jacket. 5 days.
Blueprints
Once you have created anything through the Create Maneuver, you gain a Blueprint of what was created. A Blueprint is a Basic Item that can be used when using the Create Maneuver to instantly succeed at recreating whatever is recorded on the Blueprint.
Narrative Craft
Rather than any existing Basic Item, Weapon, Apparel, Vehicle, or Battle Jacket, sometimes you will need to create a device for the purpose of the story. These are known as Narrative Crafts.
Narrative Crafts may be their own Basic Item or they may function as an additional Quality created by the ARC to solve a specific situation, applied to a Weapon, Apparel, or Vehicle. A great example of this is Trunks’ Time Machine, which enables travel through time.
As Narrative Crafts serve to push the story and enable unique interactions with the campaign, they will typically require their own unique Adventure Resources to be created and may increase the TN of the Create Maneuver. An ARC should make use of the process to gain a Narrative Craft to add more intrigue and engagement from the party, such as exploring other areas or engaging with NPCs (see — Reputation).
You may be required to make Knowledge (Science) Skill Checks to figure out the required Adventure Resources, or to design a Narrative Craft.
