Custom Species Examples

In the world of Dragon Ball, there are a wide variety of races that are known throughout the galaxy, and even the various universes. Below, here are a list of examples of races that can be built with Custom Species rules. While many of them are prominent in the Dragon Ball Universe, it’s safe to say that they are perfect fits for Custom Species rules.

In the examples below, any options to be chosen with a specified Racial Trait will follow it in parentheses ( ), while any Flaws added to the Racial Trat will follow it in brackets [ ].

Babidi’s Race

While scrawny in size and frail of body, these little guys are not to be trifled with! With extensive magical research and prowess as a result of their creation from the grand wizard Bibidi, their capabilities with spells are immensely potent, even bearing the ability to perform the same Manipulation Sorcery that their creator had.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Spirit and Personality, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +2
  • Size – Small
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Use Magic, Clairvoyance, Concealment, Perception, Stealth. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Arcane Adept, Magical Mastery, Minion Maker [Sickly], Racial Technique (Manipulation Sorcery – Mind) [Petite Warrior], Racial Trait (Quick To Master), Bestial Might (Slender Build)

Brenchians 

Born in harsh environments, the Brenchians adapted and survived through advanced levels of Ki control and swift movement. Those who encounter them tend to find they have a certain “exotic” charm to them, however it is believed this, too, is merely a way of evolving for survival. 

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Agility, +2 to Personality
  • Health Modifier – +5
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Clairvoyance, Concealment, Knowledge, Intuition, Perception. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.

Cerealians

There are many fighters in the cosmos who fight in many different ways. Some are brutal, dealing and taking large amounts of damage. Others are adaptable, prolonging fights to grow and overcome their opponents. Cerealians are the exact opposite, however; a swift and lethal species, using their Sniper’s Eye to take down foes with exceptional precision.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Insight, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Clairvoyance, Concealment, Knowledge, Intuition, Perception. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.

Dyspo’s Race

Speed. Without skipping a beat, that’s what these rabbit-like people are all about in every capacity, even at the risk of their more fragile bodies. With blinding speed that could contend for the fastest in the universe, they focus on rushing down their opponents, hitting them with swift speed and staggering blows to finish a fight in a flash.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Agility, +2 to Personality 
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Morale
  • Skills – Stealth, Acrobatics, Performance, Persuasion, Perception. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.

Herans

Herans are a warrior race, much like the saiyans. Their main form of interaction with the galaxy comes in the form of piracy, and while they lack the adaptive abilities of other combative races, they often more than make up for it in their pure power, and their latent ability to unleash even more power.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force or Spirit, +4 to Personality, +2 to Insight
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large.
  • Saving Throws – Corporeal
  • Skills – Athletics, Bluff, Clairvoyance, Intimidate, Thievery, or Use Magic. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Burdened with Power (Power Boost) [Burdened with Power], Inherent Transformation (Power Boost), Forged in Battle, Beloved Beauty, Racial Trait (Blood of the Warrior), Ki Control OR Arcane Adept

Hirudegarn

An ancient evil from long ago, a phantom able to drift away from attacks in an instant before leveraging its immense size to crush victims, Hirudegarn is an evil so terrifying its mere presence can topple empires and bring civilizations to heel. 

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Agility, +2 to Tenacity
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Enormous
  • Saving Throws – Corporeal
  • Skills – Intimidation, Athletics, Acrobatics, Survival, Intuition. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Giant’s Strength [Weakness], Savage Creature (Feral Creature), Racial Trait (Organic Consumption), Inherent Transformation (Monster Form) [Limited Form], Bestial Might (Tail), Racial Technique (Afterimage – Body)
  • Flaws – Limited Form (Monster Form – You cannot enter this form at will. You must be under the Bloodied Threshold to use the Transformation Maneuver), Weakness (Giant’s Strength – When you feel intense emotions, you must make a Morale Saving Throw check, TN Very Hard. If you fail, you suffer from Impediment on all Combat Rolls until the end of your next turn. If the cause is still prominent when this effect ends, make this roll again)

Hit’s Race

Based upon the vicious assassin Hit, this race has their focus primarily borne upon their sheer adaptation, and tactile intelligence. Even when the cards are stacked against them, members of this race will always find a way to shift the outcome to their favor, attempting to quickly deal with whatever comes along the old fashioned way: through sheer skill and strategy.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Agility and Insight, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +5
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large.
  • Saving Throws – Impulsive
  • Skills – Stealth, Bluff, Clairvoyance, Concealment, Profession.  Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Racial Trait (Rapid Learning), Killer Instinct, Environmental Adaptation (Vacuum), Race of Scholars, Forged in Battle, Burdened with Power (Power Boost OR Awoken) [Burdened with Power]

Jaco’s Race

An observant and crafty race, Jaco’s race are extremely astute, their enhanced perception allowing them to track beings much faster than them. Combined with their high aptitude and quick wits, they prove themselves to be quite the cunning strategists, and a threat if underestimated.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Scholarship and Insight, +2 to Personality
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Performance, Perception, Acrobatics, Pilot, Intuition. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Bestial Might (Slender Build), Sniper’s Eye, Weapon Master, Racial Trait (Legacy of the Scholars), Abnormal Anatomy, Blazing Speed

Janemba

Once a normal ogre, Janemba formed from the culmination of Evil Energy coalescing into a single vessel. With unorthodox abilities, including the ability to draw upon their vast arsenal of magic to manipulate the space around them, they can be a force to be reckoned with.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force or Spirit, +4 to Tenacity, +2 to Agility
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Enormous
  • Saving Throws – Impulsive
  • Skills – Acrobatics, Bluff, Intimidate, Athletics, Use Magic. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Giant’s Strength [Reversed Gigantism], Abnormal Anatomy, Portal Creation, Racial Trait (Quick to Master), Magical Mastery, Inherent Transformation (Monster Form) [Weakness]
  • Flaws – Weakness (Inherent Transformation – Loud, angry insults seem to have a negative effect on Jameba’s powers, weakening and even damaging him and his creations. When faced with this weakness, you must make a Morale Saving Throw, TN Very Hard. If you fail, you suffer from Impediment on all Combat Rolls until the end of your next turn. A character must spend One Action to insult you enough to require a Saving Throw.)

Jiren’s Race

Simple and straightforward, Jiren’s people are known for their stubborn bodies and spirit. While they may seem a bit simple to other races, their power cannot be underestimated.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Insight, +2 to Tenacity
  • Health Modifier – +5
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Corporeal
  • Skills – Athletics, Survival, Intimidation, Perception, Clairvoyance.  Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Combative Organism, Savage Creature [Feral Creature], Racial Trait (Blood of the Warrior), Environmental Adaptation (Vacuum), Solid Guard, Abnormal Anatomy

Kanassans

Kanassans are a larger, fish-like people, particularly proficient in the use of energy control and their unique magical potential. Most importantly, is their ability to gleam into the future, using their extrasensory ability to assist them or their allies in battle, providing a tactical edge over whoever they face.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force or Spirit, +4 to Insight, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Clairvoyance, Concealment, Knowledge, Intuition, Perception. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.

Konatsians

Easily identified by their pale skin and red hair, the Konatsians are not to be underestimated. Within their slim bodies lay the hearts of heroes, willing to stand until the bitter end and go down fighting.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Agility, +2 to Spirit
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large.
  • Saving Throws – Morale
  • Skills – Acrobatics, Performance, Use Magic, Perception, Intuition.  Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Weapon Master, Racial Trait (Celestial Potential), Karmic Punishment (Good), Forged in Battle [Brittle Bones], Death Defier, Bestial Might (Slender Build)

Metalmen 

Sturdy metallic giants, the Metalman are an intense force to be reckoned with, with bodies easily weighing over a 1,000 tons and with robust, impenetrable bodies to match. However, their mental fortitude is rather weak, rather known for crumbling at the right insult, leading to a rather crippling weakness, despite their overwhelming defense.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Tenacity, +2 to Insight
  • Health Modifier – +5
  • Size – Enormous
  • Saving Throws – Corporeal
  • Skills – Intimidate, Survival, Athletics, Persuasion, Intuition.  Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Giant’s Strength, Abnormal Anatomy,  Dense Body [Bulky],  Invulnerability (Energy), Environmental Adaptation (Extreme Heat) [Fragile Heart], Racial Technique (Lava Spit – Body)
    • Lava Spit Super Signature Technique (Elemental [Fire] – Damage Over Time [2], Penetration, Short Range [3]) Ki Point Cost: 15 Technique Point Cost: 16

Moro’s Race

Bearing magic as ancient as the species itself, Moro’s race bears an immense potency with the arsenal of spells that are at their disposal. Bolstered by a keen sense of tactical timing, and exceptional arcane ability, few can contend with the sheer power that arises when faced with magicians like them.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Spirit and Insight, +2 to Personality
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Perception, Concealment, Clairvoyance, Knowledge, Use Magic. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Arcane Adept, Killer Instinct, Creature Consumption, Burdened with Power (Spirit Absorption) [Burdened with Power], Magical Mastery, Racial Trait (Quick to Master)

Shadow Dragons

Forged from the Negative Energy from the repeated usage of the Dragon Balls, the Shadow Dragons are less a race of beings, and more the cultivation of Negative Energy made manifest. As such, their powers, imbued with that negative potency can take on a wide variety of forms, influencing their physical appearances, as well as the abilities they bear.

Shadow Dragons are an odd beast. Unlike other races, they cannot all simply be handled through a few subraces. Instead, each one has a unique build. Each is so unique in fact, that this race cannot follow the standard subrace setup of 4 universal Traits. Instead, they each have 3 Racial Traits they share, followed by the specific 3 Traits of each Dragon. This should be done in any game involving Shadow Dragons to keep the variety of each encounter they may bring.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Spirit and Insight, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +3
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large. 
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive

  • Racial Traits – Karmic Punishment (Evil) [Reclusive State], Racial Trait (Quick to Master), Bestial Might (Thick Hide)

Syn Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Creature Consumption [Cannibalism], Combative Organism (Strike and Wound State), Bestial Might (Treacherous Quills)

Haze Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Bestial Might (Tail), Environmental Adaptation (Toxic Air) [Bulky], Savage Creature
    • Dynamic Environment – Toxic Air (Races that need to breathe must make a Corporeal Saving Throw when exposed to Toxic Air. For each Difficulty Category your roll exceeds, you can remain in this air without taking damage for +1 Combat Round. If you are within the Toxic Air past this point, take 1d10(T) Lethal Damage at the end of each of their turns. If you leave the Toxic area and re-enter, you must make the Corporeal Saving Throw again. Races that need to breathe have all of their Ki Point Costs increased by +1(T).)

Eis Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Bestial Might (Wings), Forged in Battle, Racial Technique (Ice Ray [Petrification] – Body) [Brittle Bones]

Nuova Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Bestial Might (Wings), Forged in Battle, Racial Technique (Heat Armor – Body) [Brittle Bones]

Rage Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Regenerative Anatomy [Petite Warrior], Rubber Rebound, Inherent Transformation (Giant Form) [Limited Form]
  • Flaws – Limited Form (Giant Form – In order to enter this form, and increase your Size, you must drain Electricity)

Oceanus Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Beloved Beauty, Inherent Transformation (Monster Form), Racial Technique (Mighty Hurricane Fury – Body) [Sickly]
    • Mighty Hurricane Fury Super Signature Technique (Elemental [Wind] – Penetration [2], Twin Linked [Strike], Widespread Magic, Concentration Ki Point Cost: 19 Technique Point Cost: 29

Naturon Shenron

  • Racial Traits – Creature Consumption, Burrower [Petite Warrior], Giant’s Strength [Limited Gigantism]

Toppo’s Race

A race carrying as much bulk as they do bravado, Toppo’s race hold themselves high, with their robust power and endless drive for justice. Their large frames and even larger hands also provide a major assistance in grappling and pinning opponents, ensuring that none escape their mighty grasp.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Tenacity , +2 to Personality
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Morale

Tuffles

A species of technologically advanced humanoids, the Tuffles could best be simplified down to smart, but small.  While their focus on research has left them weaker than most races, they make up for it with their technological prowess, and their tactical minds.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Scholarship and Insight, +2 to Personality
  • Health Modifier – +2
  • Size – Small
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Craft, Knowledge, Investigate, Medicine, Perception, or Science. Select any 2, and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Racial Trait (Legacy of the Scholars), Race of Scholars, Weapon Master, Glorious Tactics [Petite Warrior], Defender’s Tactics [Sickly], Bestial Might (Slender Build)

Yardratians

Raw power or sheer intellect aren’t the only things that make up a fighter. The ability to use, create, and improve powerful techniques are a staple in the kits of renowned fighters. Yardratians take this concept to heart, being masters of many powerful techniques, using them to fight in ways most enemies would never expect. This, in combination with their generally non-threatening looks, makes them potent and unexpected adversaries in combat.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Spirit and Insight, +2 to Scholarship
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Cognitive
  • Skills – Clairvoyance, Concealment, Knowledge, Intuition, Perception. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Arcane Adept, Ki Control, Racial Technique (Instant Transmission – Mind), Bestial Might (Slender Build), Magical Mastery, Racial Trait (Quick to Master)

Yakkon’s Race

Often tall and abnormal in appearance, bearing reptilian features as well, these beings are creatures born of darkness, devourers of light and energy. When you’ve adapted to living in complete darkness, feasting on any light or energy you come across is vital to survive, and it is precisely this trait that has made this race feared by so many.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Tenacity and Agility, +2 to Force
  • Health Modifier – +4
  • Size – Enormous
  • Saving Throws – Corporeal
  • Skills – Survival, Perception, Stealth, Athletics, Intimidate. Select any two Racial Skills and gain +1 Skill Rank with them.
  • Racial Traits – Light Consumption, Giant’s Strength, Innate Weaponry, Savage Creature [Feral Creature], Racial Trait (Keratinous Plating), Environmental Adaptation (Limited Light) [Passive Adaptation]
  • Flaws – Passive Adaptation (Environmental Adaptation [Dynamic] – While you have adjusted to this environment, it has not toughened your body as other environments would have. Ignore the Health Modifier increase gained from the Environmental Adaptation trait.)

Zarbon’s Race

Elegant. Refined. Beautiful. Such words are perfect descriptions of these warriors. They are renowned for their stunning appearance, with their gorgeous teal or lightish green skin. Few would guess that beneath that beauty lies a terrifying secret. Members of this race possess the staggering power to transform into a hideous beast, often used as a last resort to preserve their enchanting looks. They are beyond ruthless when they use this ability, and prefer to destroy their opponents quickly with a monstrous aggression.

  • Attribute Increases – +4 to Force and Personality, +2 to Insight
  • Health Modifier – +2
  • Size – Small, Medium or Large
  • Saving Throws – Morale

Zoon-seijin

Born upon a harsh, and intense planet, the Zoon-seijins are accustomed to intense levels of gravity and abuse, developing a natural layer of armor over their body as a result. Despite this, they tend to prefer fast paced assaults, either aiming for a precise shot or a flurry of blows meant to end the fight quickly.
