The scale of the Dragon Universe and the fights that take place there may sometimes be mind-boggling. A universe spreading across many worlds, universes, and dimensions can pack a lot in it.
These rules are to enable an ARC to create a planet of their own!
Planet Creation
Creating a Planet in DBU is done through choosing various elements that contribute to a planet as a whole. Below is a step-by-step process for Planet Creation in the DBU system:
- 1) Decide the values of the planet’s Planet Attributes
- 2) Decide if a planet has any Planet Factors, and if so, which.
- 3) Calculate a planet’s Lifeforce.
- 4) Create any relevant lore and Characters for the planet! Consider what the dominant species is of a planet, what society/cultures there are (if any), what people would know of the planet, and what figures or importance there are on this planet as a start. Make use of the Planet Attributes to help steer your ideas.
Planet Attributes
Random Attribute Assignment. Each Planet Attribute is measured between 1 and 6, meaning that you can roll a d6 for each Planet Attribute to calculate them if you want to quickly create a planet or spice things up with a random assignment.
Zero Attribute. Some Planet Attributes, marked with (ZA) after their name, may be able to possess a value of 0. This means that the planet is completely devoid of this Planet Attribute.
List of Planet Attributes
Planet Size: Planet Size governs the general size of a planet. The higher the value, the larger the planet is. Depending on the value of the Planet Size, a different Gravity Intensity (see — Gravity) will be applied to the planet:
- 1~3) Gravity Intensity of 0.
- 4~5) Gravity Intensity of 1.
- 6) Gravity Intensity of 2.
Flora (ZA): This Planet Attribute represents the amount of plant life on the planet. The higher the value, the more abundant a planet is with plantlife. At a value of 1, there is scarce plantlife that is barely seen, while at a value of 6, the entire planet may be overrun and be practically a jungle world.
Fauna (ZA): This Planet Attribute represents the amount of animal life on the planet. The higher the value, the more animal species and diversity are present on the planet. At a value of 1, there are few living creatures on the planet, while at a value of 6, the entire planet is overburdened by its overflowing populace and may be reaching the point of a collapse.
Level of Advancement (ZA): This Planet Attribute represents how advanced the people of the planet are. The higher the value, the more technologically advanced they may be. This Planet Attribute’s value is 0 if there is no Fauna.
Level of Advancement does not contribute to Lifeforce Calculation.
Planet Factors
Planet Factors are additional contributing factors to a planet. They serve to influence the mechanical nature of a planet. ARCs are encouraged to make up their own Planet Factors to make their planets unique and interesting.
List of Planet Factors
Abnormal Gravity: This planet has an abnormally high gravity for its size.
–Effect: Increase this planet’s Gravity Intensity by up to 3. If you wish to randomize the increase, roll a 1d6 and halve the Dice Score to decide how much higher the Gravity Intensity is.
Ravaged Environment: This planet has been dealt a serious blow, potentially due to conflicts, intense weather, or pollution.
–Effect: Halve this planet’s maximum Lifeforce.
Powerful Fauna: The animals of this planet are particularly powerful. If a planet possesses this Planet Factor, make sure any Animals encountered on this planet are of a relatively higher Power Level (compared to fauna of other worlds).
–Effect: Increase the value of the Fauna Planet Attribute by 2 for the sake of calculating this planet’s Lifeforce.
Multiple Stars: This planet has multiple stars nearby.
–Effect: Increase the maximum Lifeforce of this planet by 4.
Inhospitable: This planet does not have an atmosphere that supports most forms of life.
–Effect: This planet is an Unbreathable Environment (see — Battle Environments). Characters who need to breathe will die on this planet unless wearing a piece of Apparel or being inside of a Vehicle/Base that ignores the effects of an Unbreathable Environment.
Lifeforce
Lifeforce is the energy within a planet and the life upon it. Some characters are able to draw on this Lifeforce and make use of it for themselves.
Lifeforce Calculation. To calculate a planet’s Lifeforce, simply add up all of its Planet Attributes (except Level of Advancement) and double it. This is the planet’s Maximum Lifeforce.
Lifeforce can be separated into current and maximum; what it currently possesses and what it can possess at maximum.
At the end of each month, a planet will regain 1/4 of its Maximum Lifeforce.
Damaging a Planet. There are multiple ways to damage a planet, but as some games may not wish to focus on elements like this, they are not always present. If you would like such rules in your games, please refer to the Planet Destruction Optional Rules.
