Unification

There are certain types of Fusion that, while they provide an immense increase in strength, are permanent and tend to result in the definite end of one (or more) beings. It is not something to be done lightly, but in the Dragon Universe, where power can seem like the only thing that matters… Sometimes, it’s worth it to entrust everything you are to someone else, if it’ll protect everyone you care about.

Unification

Unification is not an ability that everyone can do and typically only exists due to mystical or mechanical means. In most cases, your ARC will allow you to gain this ability due to a special circumstance or it may be gained through a Racial Trait. Unification is done through the Unify Maneuver, detailed below.

Unify Maneuver (3 Actions). Target a willing member of your Race on an Adjacent Square to Unify with (they may even be Defeated, as long as they can give consent). The character with the lower Power Level (or lower Life Points, if Power Levels are tied), known as the Secondary Character, will become part of the other character and therefore stop existing as an individual character. The remaining character, known as the Primary Character, will:

  • Gain +4(bT) Attribute Points to spend immediately, using the base Tier of Power of the Secondary Character. You must keep track of how many Attribute Points were applied to each Attribute through this effect and from which Secondary Character, as the effects of the Forced Spirit Fission Spellbook Ability will remove these Attribute Points from your character’s Attribute Scores. If a character is separated through Forced Spirit Fission and you use the Unify Maneuver to become one again, if their base Tier of Power has not changed, you must apply your Attribute Points as you did the first time you became Unified.
  • Increase their Maximum Life Points, Maximum Ki Point Pool and Capacity Rate as if they had just gained a Power Level.
  • Increase their Stress Test Dice Score by +1.

These benefits can stack, if you would use the Unify Maneuver multiple times. You cannot target a Minion with the Unify Maneuver.

Fission

Fission can be seen as the opposite to Unification, allowing one being to split into two. This is usually only allowed by the ARC as a result of extreme circumstances, typically by beings who are typically already capable of mysticism.

With permission from an ARC, outside of a Combat Encounter, a character with a Power Level of 6 or higher may attempt a Use Magic Skill Check, TN Very Hard. If they fail, nothing happens. If they succeed, they successfully undergo Fission.

When undergoing Fission, the original character (known as the Original Character) becomes two characters (known as Split Characters). The Split Characters are 5 Power Levels lower than the Original Character and undergo Character Creation as usual, up to those Power Levels, with some exceptions to the typical rules for Character Creation:

  • Split Characters do not gain any Technique Points from Skill Improvements, Gifted Student or the free Signature Technique or Magical Ability gained at Character Creation. Instead, they gain access to all Signature Techniques and Magical Abilities possessed by the Original Character, even if they no longer meet their Prerequisites. Any further Technique Points gained through Skill Improvements or Gifted Student are retained.
  • Split Characters do not use the Gear Kit. Any Apparel and Accessories currently equipped by the Original Character are still equipped by both Split Characters. Any other items possessed by the Original Character that they currently had with them are destroyed by the process.
  • Split Characters cannot increase their Attribute Score in any Attribute to a value higher than the Attribute Score in that Attribute possessed by the Original Character.
  • Split Characters cannot gain any Skill Ranks in Skills that the Original Character did not possess Skill Ranks in and their number of Skill Ranks in any Skill cannot exceed those of the Original Character.

All Transformations (including Manifested Powers) possessed by the Original Character are not possessed by the Split Characters, unless they still meet the Tier of Power Requirements for those Transformations (including Manifested Powers).

Split Characters are each their own individual character and upon separating through Fission, the original player can choose one of the two Split Characters to continue controlling, while the ARC will gain control of the other.

Karmic Fission. In some cases, Fission is done to separate Good and Evil, making the Split Characters purely Good and purely Evil. This is known as Karmic Fission. When undergoing Fission, a character may declare that it is a Karmic Fission. As a result of Karmic Fission, there can be an imbalance of power due to the Alignment of the Original Character. If the Original Character is Neutral, there is no change between the Split Characters gain, but if the Original Character is either Good or Evil, then:

  • The Split Character with the same Alignment as the Original Character is only 3 Power Levels lower than the Original Character, instead of 5.
  • The Split Character with the opposite Alignment as the Original Character may gain the free Signature Technique or Magical Ability from Character Creation.

Split Characters through Karmic Fission are diametrically opposed and typically will not work together or willingly undergo Unification.

Karmic Fission cannot be done by characters who are purely Good or purely Evil, such as a member of the Demon Clan.

Recombining. If two Split Characters become one again through the Unify Maneuver, the Primary Character gains these bonuses in addition to those from the Unify Maneuver:

  • +5 Power Levels.
  • Any Skill Ranks in a Skill that exceed their own. This effect is not additive, their number of Skill Ranks will simply be set to those of the Split Character that became the Secondary Character if it exceeds their own in that Skill.
  • All of the Signature Techniques, Magical Abilities and Advancements possessed by the Split Character that became the Secondary Character, if they are not already possessed. If the two Split Characters share a Signature Technique of the same name, but the Secondary Character has Advantages that the Primary Character does not, the Primary Character may also choose to gain those Advantages for that Signature Technique without paying the Technique Point cost.
  • Any Transformations (including Manifested Powers) belonging to the Original Character that were lost upon Fission are immediately regained, including any Mastery or changes through the effects of Downtime that were applied to those Transformation(s).

Racial Differences

Certain Races have unique interaction with Unification or Fission:

Namekians. After using the Unify Maneuver, a Namekian gains the Super Namekian Manifested Power. If they can’t gain this Manifested Power due to their base Tier of Power not meeting the Tier of Power Requirements, then they will gain this stack of Super Namekian upon their base Tier of Power meeting the Tier of Power Requirements.

If Namekians undergo Fission, then they have a life link: if either Split Character would die, then the other Split Character will also immediately die and if either Split Character would be brought back to life, then the other Split Character will also be brought back to life. Additionally, if a Namekian uses a Karmic Fission, then the Evil Split Character changes their Subrace to the Demon Clan, using their Original Character’s Subrace for either the Former Warrior or Former Dragon options of Soul Denier.

If a Namekian uses the Unify Maneuver to become one again after using Fission, they cannot use Fission again.

Androids. After using the Unify Maneuver, an Android gains the Super Android Manifested Power. If they can’t gain this Manifested Power due to their base Tier of Power not meeting the Tier of Power Requirements, then they will gain this stack of Super Android upon their base Tier of Power meeting the Tier of Power Requirements.

Androids may use the Unify Maneuver with a killed Ally, if both the Primary Character and Secondary Character chose the Construct option of the Wonders of Technology Racial Trait.

Majin. If a Majin that had used Fission becomes one again through the Unify Maneuver, they gain the Super Majin Manifested Power.

(Optional, your ARC decides if this is included): A Majin may choose to use the Unify Maneuver, as an Out of Sequence Action, instead of gaining a stack of Absorption if they would gain a stack of Absorption with another Majin as the Absorbed Character. The Majin that would have been an Absorbed Character automatically serves as the Secondary Character and is automatically considered willing for the effects of the Unify Maneuver. If an Absorbed Character manages to escape from a Majin, the Majin who was made a Secondary Character through this effect may attempt to make an Opposed Cognitive Save against the Majin who would be a Primary Character. If they lose, nothing happens. If they win, they become free as if they were an Absorbed Character and the Majin loses the benefits of the Unify Maneuver as if they were separated under the effects of the Forced Spirit Fission Magical Ability.

Reincarnated Power

If a Split Character is chosen as a Past Life for the Reincarnated Power Manifested Power, the character who possesses that Manifested Power can be treated as the same Race as their Past Life for the effects of the Unify Maneuver, if that Unify Maneuver is initiated by the other Split Character that came from the same Original Character. This is treated as if they were Recombining (see above).

If the character with the Reincarnated Power Manifested Power is the Primary Character, they may gain +1 Mind-Category Racial Trait from the Secondary Character. If there is no Mind-Category Racial Trait to select, they may instead gain +1 Talent from the Secondary Character.
