“Friiezaaa! FriiieeZAAAA!! FRIIIIEEEZAAAAA!!!”
Who could forget Bardock’s legendary final charge? The lone Saiyan warrior tearing through waves of Frieza’s soldiers like they were paper mache. To allow for such dramatic scenes in your campaign, where a single group of warriors are opposed by entire armies, you can use this set of Optional Rules.
Horde Creation
To create a Horde, you simply apply the Horde Minion Trait to a Minion:
Horde: This Minion does not represent a single Minion, but instead a large number of individuals who would collectively be called a group of minions.
-[Passive]: This Minion is a Horde Minion.
-[Passive]: This Minion cannot be a Special Minion and cannot become a Special Minion (meaning it cannot be selected for the Ascended Minion Talent, for example).
Horde Rules
Horde Size. While the Size Category of a Horde Minion can be anything, the default amount of Squares taken up by a Horde is 5×5 Squares – this overwrites any changes to the amount of Squares they occupy due to their Size Category but while the number of Squares they occupy can be reduced (see – Horde Life Points), the number of Squares they occupy cannot be reduced lower than the amount they would typically occupy as a result of their Size Category.
If a Horde Minion occupies more Squares than their Size Category, other Characters can also occupy any Squares that the Horde Minion occupies, the Horde Minion cannot be moved through any means except a Movement Maneuver and they do not suffer from the Collision.
Horde Life and Ki Points. Unlike most Minions, Horde Minions do not set their Life Points to 1/5 through the usual Minion Rules. What is most interesting about this, however, is that Horde Minions have something akin to the Health Thresholds of a standard Character known as Horde Thresholds.
Horde Thresholds. Horde Thresholds represent the number of Minions found in a Horde Minion and therefore, their effectiveness. As a Horde Minion suffers damage and/or their Life Points are reduced, they will reach the various Horde Thresholds. The number of Squares a Horde Minion occupies is decided by their Horde Threshold and they cannot increase their Life Points past their current Horde Threshold. For example, if a Horde Minion was knocked through the Weakened Horde Threshold, they would occupy 3×3 Squares and even if they would regain Life Points through any means, it would be unable to exceed 1/2 of their Maximum Life Points.
Below are the list of Horde Thresholds:
- Full Horde. If a Horde Minion’s Life Points are above 3/4 of their Maximum Life Points, they are in this Horde Threshold. They occupy 5×5 Squares.
- Trimmed Horde. If a Horde Minion’s Life Points are below 3/4 of their Maximum Life Points, they are in this Horde Threshold. They occupy 4×4 Squares.
- Weakened Horde. If a Horde Minion’s Life Points are below 1/2 of their Maximum Life Points, they are in this Horde Threshold. They occupy 3×3 Squares.
- Decimated Horde. If a Horde Minion’s Life Points are below 1/4 of their Maximum Life Points, they are in this Horde Threshold. They occupy 2×2 Squares.
- Empty Horde. If a Horde Minion’s Life Points are below 1/10 of their Maximum Life Points, they are in this Horde Threshold. They occupy 1 Square.
Horde Minions do not suffer from Diminishing Defense while are above the Decimated Horde Health Threshold.
Special Horde. Hordes are considered Special Minions while they are at or above the Trimmed Horde Threshold.
Horde Attacks. Through the Basic Attack Maneuver, Horde Minions can only use the Combination or Rapid Fire Profiles. For every Horde Threshold they are above (meaning any below their current Horde Threshold), increase the Wound Roll for the Combination and Rapid Fire Profiles by 1(bT).
Signature Techniques can be of other Profiles, but if they are, then increase the Ki Point Cost for that Signature Technique by +1/2 and apply the Force or Magic (whichever modifier is used) an additional time.
Horde Occupancy. If an Opponent is on a Square that this Horde Minion occupies, increase their Strike Rolls against them by 1(T) and their Wound Rolls by 2(T). Additionally, treat the Horde Minion’s Size Category as if it was 2 higher for the effects of Gigantic Grip.
AoE Attacks. If an Attacking Maneuver possesses an AoE, increase its Wound Roll against a Horde Minion by x(bT), where x is equal to the Magnitude’s numerical value. For example, a Large AoE has its Wound Rolls increased by 2(bT).
The Sweeping Profile is considered an AoE with a Standard Magnitude for this effect.
