Items. There are four Item Types in DBU: Basic Item, Accessory, Apparel, and Weapon. A Basic Item covers most types of items, anything from consumed items to devices. Accessories are also counted as Basic Items for rules and effects, they are small items that are equipped to the user, granting focused, individual benefits. Apparel represents the clothing a Character wears, each type giving a passive boost to their capabilities. Weapons are a hand-held means of increasing your damage and options in combat, although they require some skill to make proper use of.
Integrated. Items that are Integrated become part of a Character, and as such, ignore any initial Penalties they would normally incur (see — Apparel Penalty and Weapon Penalty). There are a few rules that apply to Integrated Items:
- Any effects that incur additional Penalties or increase Penalties to Integrated Items still apply normally.
- All Attacking Maneuvers made with Integrated Weapons may be treated as Unarmed Attacks OR Armed Attacks. Decide which at Attack Declaration.
- When an Item of the Weapon, Accessory, or Apparel Item Type is Integrated, it becomes either an Active or Inactive Integrated Item. You ignore the presence of Inactive Integrated Items, treating them as if they were not equipped and ignoring all of their effects. A Character cannot have more than 1 of each of these Item Types Active at a time (to switch between Inactive and Active Item Types, see – No Effort Maneuver).
- Integrated Items do not count towards the normal limit of equipped Items of their Item Type.
- All Integrated Basic Items (that are not Accessories) are able to be used normally, as if the Character was holding them.
Gaining Items. You can be given items by another Character, find them through Adventuring, craft them, or gain them at Character Creation through the Gear Kits (described below).
Crafting items is done through the Create Maneuver (see — Adventuring Maneuvers).
Gear Kit. Another important aspect of creating a Character in the Dragon World is the gear they possess. At Character Creation, pick one of the following:
- A Weapon (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 3).
- A piece of Apparel (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 3).
- A Battle Jacket (with a Jacket Grade of Advanced).
- A Vehicle (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 3).
- A single Accessory (with a Craft DC of Expert or lower).
- A Buddy.
- Up to 2 Basic Items (with a Craft DC of Qualified or lower each).
Additionally, you gain 2(bT) Equipment Points (EP). You can spend these EP at Character Creation to:
- Gain a piece of Apparel (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 1). If it is Standard Clothing, increase the Craftsmanship Grade to 2.
- Gain a Battle Jacket of the Basic Jacket Grade.
- Gain a Basic item with a Craft DC of Qualified or lower.
- Gain a Weapon (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 1).
- Gain a Vehicle (with a Craftsmanship Grade of 1).
- Increase the Craftsmanship Grade of 1 Item of your choice (Weapon/Apparel/Vehicle).
- Increase the Grade of a Battle Jacket by 1 Grade.
- Increase the maximum Craft DC for gaining a Basic Item or Accessory by 1 Difficulty Category. Each time you select this option you must apply it to one instance of gaining a Basic Item or Accessory (this can stack on a singular choice).
The options gained by spending Equipment Points can affect the equipment chosen in the previous list.
